Claude C2PA provenance explained
This page is only about file provenance. Alongside invisible text watermarks, Claude can attach signed C2PA metadata to supported images. Mixing the two is the #1 reason people pick the wrong “remover.” Text mark guide: how Claude watermarks work.
What C2PA is
C2PA records how content was created or processed and can help others verify provenance. If a signed label is present, it can indicate a file was processed by Claude and whether it appears tampered with afterward. Think “signed history for a file,” not “secret sauce in the paragraph.”
Which files are affected
Anthropic’s documentation calls out supported types such as .svg, .png, and .jpg where Claude attaches signed provenance metadata. Always check current Anthropic docs for the latest supported formats and products.
Anthropic’s free Claude file checker reads those Content Credentials. To strip PNG, JPEG, or SVG credentials in your browser, use remove C2PA.
